For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology

Oklahoma Hosts Regional

Vision

"To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes." Dean Kamen, Founder

Mission

Our mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication and leadership.

Gracious Professionalism

Dr. Woodie Flowers, FIRST National Advisor and Pappalardo Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, coined the term "Gracious Professionalism."

Gracious Professionalism is part of the ethos of FIRST. It's a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community.

Team Shockwave in Action

FIRST in MNTC Pre-Engineering

Pre-Engineering students at Moore Norman Technology Center design and build a robot each year as part of thier Capstone course "Engineering Design and Development". Team 1742 is led by students participating in the Pre-Engineering Program at Moore Norman Technology Center. The goal of MNTC's Pre-Engineering Program (and FIRST Robotics) is to better prepare our students for a 4 year engineering degree after completing high school. 2009 Chairman's Award Initiative "NO TEAM LEFT BEHIND!"

In 2008, Oklahoma grew from just 12 teams to 36 teams and hosted a regional for the first time in Oklahoma City. Team SHOCKWAVE wants to make sure ALL 36 Oklahoma teams make it back on the field for 2009! We plan to provide support to any team in the state and are willing to travel to your school or shop to help. We also plan on hosting a day in week 5 of build season where you can bring your bot to our shop to help get it finished. We want every Oklahoma team to uncrate a "finished and functioning" robot in 2009.
