OKLAHOMA CITY REGIONAL RESULTS
Team 1742 competed at the inaugural OKC FIRST
Robotics Regional Competition this last week, and although
we did not win the competition, we did very well. We made
it to the "Final Four". We had some electrical "gremlins"
invade our robot that caused us to not control our own destiny
and pick our own alliance going into the finals, but we
fought our way back into contention. Judges and our peers
were impressed with our robot, and we were the first robot
selected by the #1 seeded team to go into the finals competition.
Team SHOCKWAVE is the winner of the 2008 Oklahoma City
Regional Johnson & Johnson Gracious Professionalism
Award.
Team 1742 was recognized for outstanding sportsmanship
and gracious professionalism in the heat of competition,
both on and off the playing field.
We helped many teams that showed up on Thursday with non-
functioning robots complete their robot, pass inspection,
and participate in the competition. We loaned out materials
and expertise during all of the competition, and represented
MNTC and our schools very well.
What we are most proud of is how our team persevered and
competed with honor during the competition. During all of
the trials associated with a technical competition of this
magnitude, we stayed focused on working through the problems,
and maintaining a positive attitude toward our teammates
and the other robotics teams. Our students did us proud.
Specials THANK YOU's are in order:
John, Linda, Jeanette, and Steve - having enthusiastic
support from administration fuels the fires, and allows
us to sleep at night - knowing you have our backs.
Carla, Jeannie, Barbara and Roger - helping us purchase
and keep track of all our parts, tools , registrations,
and other costs on a timely manner is invaluable in a short
build time.
Gil Lenker, Tracy Jones, Terry Williamson and their students
- our designs have become more dependent on custom made
fabricated parts over the 3 years we have competed. As a
result we are relying heavily on the quality, precision,
and professionalism of their students as they build our
designed components. Not one part failed during competition.
More importantly, their enthusiastic support and efforts
allows our visions to become reality. You guys are the best.
The entire marketing department- for helping us reach out
to future students by taking them to the competition.
And so many other of you that offered their support and
encouragement for our team and robot we thank you.
This truly is a team effort and we are humbled by the opportunity
you all give to our students. This is fun. Let's do it again
next year!
Thanks,
Art and Jason
